Kennington Workshop Closure

Saturday 13th October was our last day trading from our Kennington Workshop. We opened in 2011, we'd seen the numbers of cyclists increase rapidly over that time. It was always a busy little shop but we left a very well established, and we like to think well loved cycle workshop behind us!

All the staff at Balfe's Bikes would like to thank our Kennington customers dearly for your trade over the last seven years, you helped us build a great little shop which we are proud to pass on to new owners, Cycle Fix London.

So why did we close?

We enjoyed what we did very much in Kennington, the simple idea that you can run a dedicated Bicycle-Workshop on a high traffic route worked really well. We created relationships with customers as if they were locals, but many of you are actually far from local. Many of you guys cycle in from Croydon, Balham, Clapham and so on. That of course doesn't mean to say that many of our customers were not from kennington, and we wouldn't have been without you for a moment.

No, the reason we closed is to focus on the two other shops. We have a great core of 10 staff. We are a small business and I felt we were spreading ourselves too thinly at times. So, we have kept all our staff and are now able to open our Dulwich and Streatham shops on Sundays and make those two locations everything they have the potential to be. We shall have increased servicing ability, we shall be able to come out to our customers to collect and deliver their bicycles* and we shall be able to make more of our website, so it might be winter, but there's plenty of work to do!

So we are looking forward to growing into the mobile collection and delivery market, if you would like to take advantage of this please CONTACT US HERE and we'll come out and deliver for free. Just mention you've read the offer on our latest news page.

We shall also be emailing out over the next week or so with special offers to our old Kennington customer base to see if we can't tempt you into venturing a little further south to Dulwich or Streatham Hill. Or, hopefully, we can come to you!

We are all proud to be able to pass an established business on to Cycle Fix London. Terry has great feedback and we all wish them every success.

* New take on the mobile bicycle workshop; your bike collected, taken to a properly equipped, well stocked, warm workshop. Serviced. Delivered back. Not wiped with a greasy rag on the pavement underneath a gazebo!

Not really news so much; it is time to STOCK TAKE aaargh

But it is necessary. It means our ordering is accurate and we stand a good chance of actually having all the parts we need to fix all those bikes that role in and role out (a bit more smoothly) of our shops each day.

Each shop is a two day affair. Fortunately our Kennington Workshop has been done already so means:

Dulwich shall be closed on the 25th and 26th of September 2018.

Streatham Hill shall be closed on the 2nd and 3rd of October 2018.

Thanks, as ever, for all your patience. Balfe's Bikes.

Our online booking system is finally live!

Wonderman Wesley
Wonderman Wesley our Workshop Manager, East Dulwich

For a long time now we have wanted to launch our servicing booking system online, and now we finally have! It's taken a lot of back end testing and we've had many made-up names interfering with our shop calendars (Bobby Flamenco, MadBob Rubberbottom etc etc)

We shall be broadening our range of online sources soon, at the moment we have the core-four: Full Service, General Service, Single Speed and safety Check.

To celebrate we have created a 15% off labour code:

Make sure to redeem this when you book online!

Balfe’s Bikes launches courtesy bike scheme

Our customers need never be without a bike again as we launch a unique courtesy bike scheme — and it’s totally free.

The scheme gives you the opportunity to borrow a bike while you’re waiting for your own to be serviced. This means you’ll be able to carry on as normal with your daily commute, shopping trips or school pickups. While we look after your bike, you can carry on as normal!

Balfe's Bikes Courtesy Bikes

And right now we’re offering it as a completely free option at our three shops in East Dulwich, Kennington and Streatham. This means that if you come in for a service, we won’t charge you a penny for your courtesy bike. Just come back and tell us how much you enjoyed riding it.
